Introduction to Transport
20 credits

This module provides an introduction to transport planning base principals and aims to give understanding of these principals for further development within the programme. 

Principles of Economics and Management
20 credits

This module aims to provide students with an introduction to economic and management theories and principles with reference to transport planning

Mathematics for Transport
20 credits

This module aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of the mathematics underpinning transport planning, and helps you to apply these techniques within a transport planning context.

Introduction to Law
20 credits

This module will provide the students with a working knowledge of the English legal system and an introduction to the principles of the law including contract, tort and property law.

Introduction to Modelling
20 credits

This module will introduce you to the concept of mathematical and statistical modelling of real-world problems. It will give you experience of building mathematical and statistical models.

Infrastructure Design and Skills Project
20 credits

This module enables you to develop the academic and digital literacy skills necessary to perform effectively in a Higher Education context. It introduces you to your professional subject area whilst providing you with an early opportunity to engage in a collaborative environment. It helps develop your self-awareness skills and introduce you to CPD and personal development planning. It introduces you to infrastructure and helps to explain the interlinking between the various forms of infrastructure improvement for zero carbon world and comply with the UNSDG’s. You will be introduced to a systems approach to solving complex engineering problems to tackle the climate emergency, considering biodiversity and nature-based solutions. The module will also introduce the planning, design, construction and operational activities required for civil engineering infrastructure & associated works

Environment and Sustainability
20 credits

The aim of this module is to analyse a range of environmental impacts linked to the maritime and logistics sectors, and to appraise regulations and practices which control their effects.

Mathematics for Transport II
20 credits

This module will help develop your knowledge and understanding of the probability theory and statistics underpinning transport planning, and will demonstrate how to apply these techniques within an engineering context. It will further develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant mathematical techniques underpinning engineering, and how to apply these within an engineering context.

Business Organisation Awareness
20 credits

This module will raise awareness of the nature of business organisations, their structure, management and financing, with particular reference to transportation, maritime and logistics.

Surveying and transportation
20 credits

This module introduces you to the methods of infrastructure route planning, highway geometry, design & construction and geodetic & satellite surveying. It also helps to demonstrate how total stations and GNSS receivers can capture data for use in software packages to produce contoured plans and sections. Further, it aims to develop practical surveying skills.

Transport Operations Management
20 credits

Planning and Infrastructure Project
20 credits

In this module you will develop skills necessary to deliver a complex, group research project that fits within a sustainable Transport Planning context. This module will enable you to develop the academic and digital literacy skills necessary to perform effectively in a Higher Education context. It will enhance your understanding of the professional subject area, and your skills in team work in a collaborative environment using industry standard collaborative CAD and design tools. It will help you develop your self awareness skills, and personal development planning through CPD. It will also develop your understanding of Risk Management, Health and Safety and sustainability.

Core modules

Transportation and Infrastructure
20 credits

This module will help develop an understanding of pavement and drainage design to DMRB, traffic flow and junction design, track bed design, switch and crossing layouts, Climate Resilience, SuDS. Under this module, you will study recent developments within the field of infrastructure, and you will develop an understanding of innovation and entrepreneurship through consideration of case studies.

Global Transport and Logistics
20 credits

The aim of this module is to develop knowledge and understanding of global supply chain management from the upstream functions of procurement and operations to the downstream decision making framework for the multimodal transportation of goods.

Smart Cities
20 credits

A module to cover Smart Cities and how Transport Planning can aid in their design and implementation

Transport Planning Design Project
60 credits

This module provides you with the opportunity to work in groups to conduct a complete holistic design of a realistic Transport Planning project presented by a client with a focus on defining, managing and implementing an open-ended group task. It further enables you to combine your theoretical knowledge of analysis and design within the experience of a major task similar to those of working as a professional Transport Planner.
