Course aim
This programme is aimed at experienced healthcare professionals who want to develop their clinical examination skills. It is ideal if you are working in primary and secondary care, and considering future advanced roles in a variety of disciplines.

The Clinical Examination programme has a unique system of delivery utilising live ‘patient model assistants' for the development of competency in clinical skills and assessment. Theory and physiology of body systems are covered in keynote lectures prior to practice in LJMU's Advanced Clinical Practice Suites.
Teaching and learning
Interactive lectures will be followed by participation in practical demonstrations designed to enhance your clinical skill development. You will be required to participate in structured work-based learning to consolidate emerging clinical skills.
The programme will be delivered during a 15 week academic semester, commencing in September and January of each year.

You should be a healthcare professional with at least 3 years post qualification experience prior to enrolling on this course.
How to apply
To apply for this programme, you are required to complete an LJMU CPD application form. You will need to provide details of your qualifications and curent employment.
Assessment
You will be assessed in two ways:
- Your knowledge will be assessed through the use of an unseen examination which consists of short answer questions and visual diagnostic elements. Pass mark 40%
- The second dimension of the assessment process is the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), which will assess the development of competence within a range of clinical examination skills. This will involve the assessment of a patient model, history taking and the writing of a report
CPD award
This Continuing Professional Development programme can be studied within the MSc Advanced Healthcare Practice (Clinical) award framework or as a single CPD.
