Course aim
This innovative module aims to equip the Advanced Practitioner with the knowledge and understanding of the processes involved in clinical decision making which places patients and service users at the centre of care
Course content
Outline Syllabus:-
Decision making theories
Clinical reasoning/critical thinking
Decision making and remote consultation
Leadership/Research/Ethical clinical decision making
Simulation sessions involving clinical situations and use of clinical decision making tools
4 pillars of Advanced Practice
Teaching and learning
The majority of teaching will be face to face in the university, supported by some on line materials and tutorials.
This module is delivered via a variety of methods including:-
Lectures, immersive simulation and interactive learning, case history presentations, group discussion and tutorials.
Attendance is required throughout the module and will be monitored

Alternative qualifications considered
Candidates are currently working as a registered professional in a relevant area of practice. Ideally candidates will have studied at degree (level 6) however if this is not the case the applicants' skills and professional experience will be discussed to allow the module leader to assess capability to study at level 7. Candidates must have or must be working towards clinical examination.

Assessment
Reflective portfolio
You are required to write a 4000-word portfolio of evidence, based upon a study from your clinical area. This must be underpinned by the 4 elements of Advance Clinical Practice (clinical, teaching, research, and leadership) critically analysing the decision-making processes made.
You are also required to complete a portfolio demonstrating completion of competencies and reflections
The purpose of this assignment is to utilise the knowledge and processes involved in clinical decision making, alongside enabling you to reflect and analyse a particular case which you have directly encountered that has had an impact on your learning. Therefore, it will enable you to derive meaning from aspects of your clinical learning through the integration of theory.
CPD award
This Continuing Professional Development can be studied within the MSc Advanced Healthcare Practice (Clinical) award framework or as a single CPD.
