Course aim

The course aims to enable qualified adult, child and mental health nurses and nursing associates to return to practice. You can apply for this exciting opportunity if you have been out of current practice in nursing and wish to return to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)register or if you are still currently on the NMC register, but will not meet the NMC re-validation criteria.

The fees are currently paid by the Health Education England.

Course content

The programme combines theory and practice and this theme is integrated across the duration of the course.Service users & carers, clinical staff and RTPN have engaged in the development of the current RTPN programme design. The theoretical component is undertaken in the University and continues with its application during the practice component in a clinical setting under the supervision of a practice supervisor/practice assessor from nursing.

5118HEAL for Nursing Associates

6118HEAL Adult, Child and Mental Health Nurses

This is a flexible programme and where possible, we try to tailor the programme to your individual requirements. The course can be studied over 9-12 months, full or part time. A team of academic and practice staff will support you. All resources will be made available via LJMU 's Virtual Learning Environment (Canvas). In addition, you will have full access to all learning resources via the Avril Roberts Library.

Attendance

  • Seven study days are taught over the course, which involves attendance at the University for seven individual days, spread over the first 3 months of the programme.
  • You will then go into practice within the LJMU practice area for the required length of time.
  • Attendance in practice is dependent on a combination of the length of time since registration lapsed, and individual need.
  • You must be able to attend for a minimum of at least 3 days per week once you are on placement.
  • 3-5 individual tutorials will be also provided to support you will your clinical experience and the academic portfolio.

    In order to be considered for this course con, you must:

    • Have been a registered nurse associate or a registered nurse (Adult, Mental Health and Child)
    • Complete an application process and you will also need to complete a Prior Experience Record (PER)
    • Complete an interview
    • Have satisfactory references and undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check and Occupational Health check if not currently employed within the NHS

How to apply

To apply for this programme, you are required to complete an LJMU CPD application form. You will need to provide details of your qualifications and curent employment.

  • Apply online using the undergraduate online application form selecting undergraduate from the Level of Entry drop down.
  • The PER document will be sent to you for completion. 
  • Return PER and we will arrange interview. 
  • Two references are required.
  • DBS and OH forms will be completed and returned. 
  • Confirmation of acceptance on RTPN programme will be between 7-14 days.

There is currently a bursary of £500 attached to this course and course fees are paid by Health Education England.

Assessment

Assessment and successful completion of the course will be judged against the new standards set by the NMC (2018/19). This will be done via an academic portfolio, which will be marked against academic criteria level 5 or level 6, and by practice assessment supervised by a practice assessor.
