Dr Marianna Bottiglieri is a Lecturer in Exercise and Health Psychology and researcher for the Physical Activity Exchange group at LJMU. Qualified psychologist in Italy, with a specialisation in Sport Psychology, Marianna has worked in the past as an applied practitioner both in sport and clinical organisations (e.g., residential care communities).

Marianna teaches across the Sport Psychology programme as well as the MSc Clinical Exercise Physiology, and is the current module leader for the Level 5 module Exercise and Health Psychology. Marianna also supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, and has been awarded the Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

Integrating different parts of her background, Marianna's research include two main areas of interest:

1) The psychological effect of motivationally-challenging environments and psychosocial factors that are protective or detrimental in these environments. In particular, her doctoral research investigated the influence of personality factors on stress under performance.

2) The relationship between exercise/sport and mental health, and how mental health can be promoted through exercise/sport-based interventions in high-risk populations (e.g., people affected by severe mental health disorders).
