I am a Senior Lecturer in Social Work and Health and Social Care at Liverpool John Moores University. I am a registered qualified social worker with a background in social work, latterly specialising in the area of fostering and adoption. I am an independent member of a fostering panel.
My involvement in social work education spans over 30 years, and I have had a number of roles at the university, including Programme Leader, Admissions tutor and School service user and carer lead. I have several years training experience in the area of anti-oppressive and anti-racist practice with a range of practitioners.
My teaching interests are around research methodology, participation and co-production, anti-oppressive practice, personal and professional development.
My research interests and publications have been around engagement, inclusion, participation and access of minoritised groups within and outside social work and social work education. I am passionate about participatory action and intersectional and decolonial approaches to research, and have evaluated both large national and small community-based projects in a range of organisations using these approches.
I have recently engaged in a collaborative funded research project focusing on the experiences of Black social work students and practitioners within a social work context.
I am currently studying on the Doctor of Education (EdD) programme at Liverpool John Moores University and am researching The Intersectional lived experiences of Black women social work academics navigating the Higher Educational space.
