Nursing and Advanced Practice

Faculty of Health

I have a breadth clinical experience in pre-hospital care and paramedicine, followed by enhanced and advanced practice across urgent care, primary care, and community care settings. My practice has focused particularly on safe hospital admission avoidance. Since beginning my healthcare career in 2003, I have achieved a Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Practice and was an early adopter of prescribing within the paramedic profession. I have also contributed to the innovative adoption of remote healthcare technologies, such as video consultations, telehealth, and virtual wards, prior to their widespread adoption during the COVID-19 pandemic.

My goal is to help healthcare practitioners navigate complex environments through innovative, evidence-based approaches that improve patient outcomes and prepare professionals for modern challenges. By drawing inspiration from other industries and professions, I aim to contribute to the development of a forward-thinking and adaptable healthcare workforce.
Since transitioning to education in 2021, I have focused on supporting students’ professional growth by developing skilled, compassionate, reflective, and critical thinkers. My teaching philosophy bridges the gap between clinical practice and academic learning, with an emphasis on fostering insights that extend beyond traditional healthcare settings.

Key Teaching Areas:
Applied Pathophysiology: Demystifying disease mechanisms, their causes, diagnosis, and interventions to improve health and manage symptoms.
Advanced Clinical Practice: Exploring the meaning of advanced practice, its benefits for patients, and the skills required by healthcare professionals.
Clinical Assessment and Decision-Making: Helping students apply pathophysiology knowledge to patient assessment, enabling safe and effective clinical decisions.
