Kate Hulme

I have been a qualified Mental Health Nurse since 2002. Early in my career journey i spent time working in Dublin in a mental health hospital on an acute adult ward that also specialised in post partum psychosis and had the facility of a small mother and baby unit.

I have worked with Acute mental health but the majority of my nursing career was within the community mental health team. I have a specialist interest in complex mental health care and interventions, in particular pharmacology. I also have vast experience and training in completing advanced clinical investigations into serious untoward incidents, I have completed advanced investigation training.

My academic career started at Liverpool John Moores in September 2021 when i secured my post as a Senior Lecturer. My teaching activities include Professional practice and complex mental health care, the proficient nurse and evidence based practice. I am the Mental Health Field lead and play an active part in contributing towards mental health inclusive curriculum and teaching. I have developed a particular interest in Simulation and have recently had a research paper published into this teaching mode. My other roles include Cohort Leader, Module Leader, Personal tutor, Academic assessor.

I ensure students are at the heart of all I do and ensure students have a good sense of belonging to the University and flourish in their studies. I have an interest in student mental health and well being, and also preceptorship. I won the student experience "outstanding teacher" award in 2024 that I am incredibly proud of.

I have continued in my professional development by completing the post graduate teaching certificate and I am now completing my MA in Education.
I continue to persue my interest in investigations and complete Fitness to Practice investigations for the university.
