Nursing and Advanced Practice

Faculty of Health

I am a registered Adult Nurse, qualifying in 1996, with a broad and diverse clinical background spanning hospital, community, and international healthcare settings. My early nursing experience in Sheffield, Whiston, and Australia gave me a strong foundation in acute and general adult care along with a passion for delivering safe, person-centred services across a range of environments.
In 1999 I qualified as a Midwife at St George’s Hospital, London and then persued my interest in Public Health by training as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Occupational Health) in 2002 at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. I went on to work as a Senior Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner at the Royal Marsden Hospital, supporting staff wellbeing in a specialist cancer care setting, as well as delivering occupational health services across several corporate organisations.
My journey into advanced practice began at Tooting Walk-in Centre/St George’s Hospital, where I worked as a Nurse Practitioner before returning home to Liverpool in 2014. There, I continued in a Nurse Practitioner role across the city’s nurse-led walk-in centres, gaining valuable experience in primary and urgent care.
I began my academic career at Croydon College and University Centre, teaching on BTEC Health & Social Care and Public Health BSc (Hons) programmes—balancing teaching with ongoing clinical roles. In 2023, I joined Liverpool John Moores University as a Senior Lecturer, contributing to both the Advanced Clinical Practice MSc and Pre-registration MSc Nursing programmes.
My varied clinical experiences have shaped my academic focus and continue to inspire my professional interests in staff wellbeing, primary care, and the importance of supporting the health and resilience of both patients and healthcare professionals.
