Nursing and Advanced Practice

Faculty of Health

I’m a registered adult nurse and academic with over 25 years of combined clinical and higher education experience. My clinical background includes Orthopaedics and Intensive Care, which has influenced my commitment to patient-centred care and the development of the multi-professional healthcare workforce.

I joined Liverpool John Moores University in 2023, initially as Principal Lecturer for Apprenticeships, before taking up my current role as Subject Head for Postgraduate Education, Advanced Practice and CPD. Within this role, I lead on strategic and operational management of postgraduate nursing, advanced practice programmes, continued professional development and enterprise. This includes overseeing curriculum innovation, quality assurance, business development, and staff leadership within the department. I have extensive validation experience, chair institutional validation and review panels, and contribute to national conversations and curriculum developments around standards in advanced practice and apprenticeship education.

Throughout my academic career, I’ve been dedicated to the design and delivery of both undergraduate and postgraduate education, with a strong focus on multiprofessional practice and advanced clinical roles. My scholarly work and teaching centre on professional identity, interprofessional education, and the construction of meaningful, patient-focused care across healthcare professions.

I’m a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a proud Fellow of the Florence Nightingale Foundation. These affiliations reflect my ongoing commitment to educational excellence, leadership development, and the advancement of nursing and healthcare education.
