I am qualified Children's Nurse having trained at Alder Hey Children's Hospital.
Post-qualification I relocated to London, working for BUPA Cromwell Hospital, Private Sector. This was a general medical/ surgical ward, with routine, day-case procedures as well as complex surgeries and investigations, providing care to both national and international patients.
I returned to the NHS and worked in the Corporate Sector, this role was supporting and safeguarding children and their families with Learning Disabilities and Autism. This was a unique role in which reasonable adjustments and support mechanisms were put in place to ensure safe and equitable care. Within this role, I worked closely with my manager and subsequently also supported and safeguarded adults with learning disabilities, whether this was in inpatients, outpatients, Emergency Department, or Day surgery. The achievements within this role were recognised at the Patient Safety Awards, Nursing Times Awards and Patient Experience Awards (PENNA)
At LJMU, I am a part of the Child Nursing Team. My specialism and my passion is in Learning Disability and Autism. I am actively developing innovative resources to promote and build knowledge and awareness for this.
I have a background in Safeguarding and general Medical and Surgical care for children as well as a good awareness of nursing care within Adult.
I am part of the Disability Coordinator Team within Nursing and Allied Health. Within this role, my colleague and I are supporting students with many different types of disability to ensure equality and accessibility to the course.
