Dr. Claudia Melis completed her Ph.D in Tourism Hospitality and Events at the University of Sunderland. Prior to joining Liverpool John Moores University in 2018 she was employed at the University of Bedfordshire and served as a graduate research assistant at the University of Cagliari. She holds a Master degree in Business and administration and in Management of cultural, environmental and touristic resources from the University of Cagliari (Italy).
Claudia Melis is a Senior Lecturer at LJMU for the BA (Hons) Events Management and Tourism Management undergraduate degree programme and for the MSc in International Tourism Management. She has supervised both undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
Her research interests are in cultural and heritage representations and the intersections with tourism and events; tourism/events policy, politics and power; festivals experience (with particular focus on performance and embodiment); World Intangible Cultural Heritage; the links between festivals, community and identity; events social impacts; conceptual/theoretical research, Foucauldian and Deleuzian frameworks and methodologies.
