Sarah is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology and member of the Centre for the study of Crime, Criminalisation and Social Exclusion (CCSE).
Sarah joined the Criminology team at LJMU in October 2014. Before this, Sarah completed her PhD at the University of Liverpool which was funded by the Economic Social Research Council (ESRC) +3 PhD Research Studentship and the University of Liverpool's Duncan Norman Scholarship.
Her doctoral thesis explored the ways in which young people, aged between 10 and 17 years old, conceptualised and experienced policing, safety, security and harm in two coastal resorts. The ethnographic study used multiple methods, mainly participatory, to elicit the experiences and perceptions of young people through centre-based youth organisations and outreach work in two coastal resorts. These ideas, and others, are developed in her current research interests and activities, which include: ‘place’ and the policing, social control, social exclusion and social harm of young people. Young people's use of communication technologies, ethnography and participatory visual methods, in particular Photovoice.

Alongside this, my colleague and I (Dr Sarah Greenhow), have been currently evaluating and conducting research about the exclusion of vulnerable communities, in particular unpaid caregivers, and are keenly interested in this area.
