I am a tutor within the PQiP (Professional Qualification in Probation) programme, which delivers the academic component of probation officer training across Great Machester and the North West of England.

Following a Social Work degree at Lancaster University, in 2017 I was awarded 1+3 ESRC studentship funding for a Masters in Social Research and a PhD which explored police detentions under the Mental Health Act.
My mixed-methods research analysed an administrative dataset on S136 police detentions from one constabulary in the 40 months to April 2021, including narratives from police officers and persons with experience of S136 detention. My thesis was published in October, 2022.
I joined LJMU during the summer of 2021 to work as a lecturer on the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship course.

Due to my former career in intensive care nursing and as a registered social worker, my work is informed across medical, social and criminal models. My natural curiosity, passion for promoting social justice, and desire to highlight inequalities drive my teaching and my research.
