Jay Karecha is a researcher and lecturer in the Liverpool Centre for Advanced Policing Studies. He is currently working on a research study, funded by the Office of the Police Chief Scientific Adviser via the Police Star fund, titled: ‘Can Wearable Health Technology and education packages improve health, wellbeing and quality of life among police personnel?’ The longitudinal study has tracked the health and wellbeing of 121 police officers and staff. Jay’s responsibilities have included research design, survey design, quantitative measurement, qualitative data capture, study logistics, study communications, and final write-up.
Jay’s current teaching responsibilities include modules in ‘research methods’ and ‘the dissertation module’ for Master’s degrees in: ‘Counter-Terrorism’; ‘Security Studies’; ‘Financial Crime Investigation’; and ‘Covert Investigation and Specialist Intelligence’.
In addition to Jay’s current research into the potential role of Wearable Health Technology and education packages for improving health, wellbeing and quality of life among police personnel, Jay is also currently researching police officer experiences of divorce whilst in service. Prior to this, Jay has researched police attitudes to mental health. He has led HEFCE-funded research into student experiences of hate crime, harassment and sexual violence. He has conducted research on behalf of the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Merseyside examining the impact of austerity on community safety.
Jay’s expertise focuses on research design, survey design, quantitative research, qualitative data capture and evaluation.
